Colin Grant
Colin Grant is a historian and BBC radio producer. He is the author of Negro with a Hat, a biography of Marcus Garvey and I&I: The Natural Mystics, a group biography of the original Wailers, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Livingston. Colin’s memoir, Bageye at the Wheel, was shortlisted for the PEN/Ackerley Prize.
Colin’s book (signed copies on sale on the night) argues that these reggae stars offered contrasting models for black men in the second half of the twentieth century: accommodate and succeed (Marley), fight and die (Tosh) or retreat and live (Wailer).
As with our previous Back in the Day evenings, we are offering time on the mic to share your memories of the Wailers, their music and what it means to you. If you bring in a favourite track, we’ll look to play it.
