The African Caribbean Leadership Council
Afiwi Volunteer Awards Presentation Evening SATURDAY 10th JULY 2010
The African Caribbean Leadership Council (ACLC) will be joined by over a 200 volunteers at its Afiwi Volunteers Awards Presentation Evening at ACLC West Indian Cultural Centre, 9 Clarendon Road Hornsey London N8 0DJ on Saturday 10th July 2010.
The presentation evening will recognise the contribution these volunteers make to the local community, giving their time freely for others.
Afiwi Awards will give members, residents, community groups and voluntary organisations the chance to nominate volunteers who make a positive contribution and show leadership and initiative within Haringey and its environs. Nominations for this year close on Friday 29th May 2010.
The Chairman of ACLC, Hugh Francis said “I have been overwhelmed by the number of nominations received. It has been a difficult decision to pick one winner from each category as everyone’s contributions are worthy of an Award.” He added “The African Caribbean Leadership Council recognises volunteering is one of the most important things anyone can do for their community and without this selfless sacrifice, so many important services could not function.”
It is estimated that over 10,000 people in the area volunteer contributing more than 3 million hours of their time every year. On this basis, the annual value of volunteering in Haringey is around £16 million and likely to be more.
“We have had an incredible response to these Awards” added Hugh “and I think that tells us a great deal about what is happening in our community. There are simply thousands and thousands of ordinary people who are getting on with the job of making Haringey a better place to live, visit and work. They see a need in our community and they do something about it – often inspiring others to do the same. ACLC Afiwi Volunteer Awards offer a unique way for our community to say ‘thank-you’.”
Tickets for this ultra-high profile, Black Tie event will be on sale in advance only. Available from 10am Monday 10th May – to Friday 25th June 2010, exclusively from ACLC offices: For full details please contact ACLC on: 020 8881 5881.
