Dominican Republic Travel
When you think of the Dominican Republic, cigars and brilliant white sandy beaches usually come to mind. Located between Puerto Rico and Cuba, the Dominican Republic shares its border with Haiti on the island of Hispaniola. The island has something for everyone, from the old city of Santo Domingo, with its cobbled streets and stone houses to a mountainous interior and lush rain forests surrounded by miles of stunning coastline.
Punta Cana on the East Coast of the island is a popular tourist spot, with all inclusive hotels, golf courses and amenities for holidaymakers. If you like to party the area is famous for its nightlife, and you can spend the night dancing salsa, merengue and bachata in one of the many discos and bars or try the 10,000 square foot super club ‘Jewel’ owned Reggae star Akon.
Exploring is a big attraction, the island is in one of the most diverse ecosystems in the Caribbean basin. Day trips and touring the jungles, forests and mountain areas of the Dominican Republic would be any hiker’s idea of paradise. Horseback riding, sailing, deep sea fishing and whale watching add to the extensive mix of activities to enjoy here. You can even go to the horse races! Buy some larimar, a stone only found on the island, visit the Larimar Museum or take a guided tour to a cigar factory.
You can choose from various accommodations from deluxe resorts to charming B&Bs. The climate is tropical but tempered by sea breezes. The cooler months are between December and March.
