About Grantly Adams
Activist and Barbados National Hero Sir Grantley to become the first Premier of Barbados and the only Prime Minister of the now defunct West Indies Federation. He was a social reformer bent on achieving human rights for Barbadians and a founder of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP).
Grantley Herbert Adams was born at Colliston, St. Michael, Barbados on 28 April 1898.
Grantley Adams International Airport, formerly Seawell Airport, was named after the former Prime Minister in 1976. A statue erected in is honour is located in front of Government Headquarters at Bay Street, St. Michael.
