Jamie Simpson, 33 was murdered during a robbery at the Matalan store in Kingsland shopping centre in Hackney at approx 8pm on Saturday 22.3.08.
Matalan is offering a £40,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and successful prosecution of those responsible for the murder. A post-mortem gave cause of death as a stab wound to the neck. The suspects, who are described as three black males, are thought to have made off via the rear car park of the shop in Dalston Lane. Five people have been arrested and released on bail, pending further enquiries.
Candlelit vigil was held outside Matalan store Kingsland Shopping Centre Saturday 19th April 12pm – 1pm

There were approximately 250 people at the vigil, including the Mayor of Hackney (Jules Pipe), Jeanette Arnold (Member of London Assembly and Metropolitan Police Authority), Carl Duncan (Operation Trident Independent Advisory Group) and other councillors and dignitaries as well as Jamie’s family (20 people), Jamie’s friends (40 people) and community members and shoppers.
Everyone lit candles or laid floral tributes and paid their respects, then held hands and had a two minute silence at half past twelve. The shopping centre made an announcement and everyone stood still for two minutes).
Diane Abbot MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington said “The murder of Jamie Simpson was a horrific crime. His death represents a loss to the community as a whole. My thoughts are with Jamie’s friends and family during this remembrance of his life.”
