Screening of Champion Sound a film by Fran Porter
On Thursday 5th February 2015 we will be screening a film by Metal Dog Media giving a unique insight into the history of the Reggae Sound System culture in the United Kingdom.
Champion Sound is a unique insight into the history of the Reggae Sound System culture in the UK, with the Midland’s playing an often unsung, but vital role. With a classic dance hall soundtrack, the film features internationally renowned artists, contributions from musical giants Freddie MacGregor and Pete Waterman, through to the people of Coventry who made it happen.
From the 1950s Reggae sound systems thrived in Britain as a vital musical hot line to the Caribbean. Sound systems played Ska, Rocksteady, Reggae and Dub across Britain competing in sound clashes to establish who had the best Champion Sound.
The screening will be followed by a question and answer session with director Fran Porter and guests.
