Wycombe Steel Orchestra performs in Parliament
As we draw a close to Black History Month in the UK, Wycombe Steel Orchestra makes history in Parliament being the first Steelband to perform in the Atrium, Portcullis House.
A unique performance of melodies surrounded Parliament with the beautiful sound of steelpan music on Wednesday 29th October 2014, hosted by Steve Baker MP.
"It was a joy to welcome Wycombe Steel Orchestra to perform in Parliament and not just for me. MPs, staff and police officers had their evenings lifted by a superb performance in the Portcullis House atrium. Congratulations to SV2G and the band. Your music is a wonderful part of our community" – Steve Baker MP for Wycombe.
The evening promoted the work of SV2G profiling the enrichment of students in the UK participating in SV2G programmes. The new steelpan society at BPP University was launched adding an investment as part the students’ rich cultural experience of university life. Supporting the students Carl Lygo, Vice Chancellor for BPP university gave an address on the importance of student societies. The purpose of the society is to tutor BPP students on how to play steelpans that is unique to see as the first of its kind at BPP as it is the first Alumni Society. SV2G will be contributing to the student life of the university as it has impacted the lives of so many people and to give something back to an institution that has given us so much.
END.
