CPMA to Launch Lucian Carnival in Grand Style
The Carnival Planning and Management Agency has announced the date for the Opening of Lucian Carnival 2014.
Entitled ‘Vaval Flag Party’, this year’s extravaganza is slated for Sunday June 15th at the Mindoo Phillip Park, and promises to be a smorgasbord of carnival flavors.
Lyndon Arnold, Chairman of the CPMA, expects St. Lucians to turn out in their numbers to mark the opening of the festival. “Previous years have taught us that the St. Lucian people relish in the return of their beloved carnival season,” Arnold said, “We want to welcome them in grand style with this year’s opening, back at its original home of Mindoo Phillip Park.”
In addition to the display of the 2014 carnival band offerings, scheduled to perform is an all-star carnival cast including Minelle, Invader, Nintus, Ashanti, QPid, Sir Lancealot, Teddyson John, Superman HD, Mongster, Peewee, Boss La, Ricky T and Skinny Fabulous, with performance by steel pan champions Pan Time and the first appearance of the National Carnival Queen Pageant contestants.
“The Opening of Carnival sets the pace for the rest of the season,” lamented Director of Carnival and Festival lynchpin Mr. Teddy Francis. “It was important to us to not only put on an opening but do it in a way that will mobilize the masses to be a part of St. Lucia’s signature cultural festival. With the featured line up and all of the additional elements, this year’s open will not be one to miss.”
The official launch of Lucian Carnival 2014 will take place at the Mindoo Phillip park on Sunday June 15th at 3pm. Tickets cost $25 in advance, $30 at the door. Children under the age of 15 received a special rate of $10. Tickets are available at Sunshine Book Shop, Steve’s Barber Shop, The Cell, Splendor Gifts and More and Gablewoods Mall and the Cultural Development foundation.
