Burning Spear (aka Winston Rodney) is one of the grandfathers of roots reggae, From his musical beginnings in 1966, when Bob Marley arranged an audition at Studio One (They were both originally from the St. Anne’s area of Jamaica).
He has continued to make and produce music for over 35 years, much of it celebrating the teachings of Marcus Garvey, and social justice. After seven unsuccessful nominations he finally won a Grammy for his 1999 album, ‘Calling Rastafari’.
