Anguilla Travel Guide
Anguilla is a beach lover and sun seekers paradise. Miles upon miles of white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters and idyllic coves – perfect for relaxing and getting away from it all.
There are many attractions in Anguilla, for boat lovers it is heaven, as the national sport is boat racing and sailing. The Anguilla Annual Yacht Regatta takes place every year in May, where yachts compete in a number of events. Snorkelling sunbathing, horse riding and other beach activities are just some of the things you can do. If diving is what you’re after, Anguilla offers a superb reef system and offshore wrecks to explore including the Spanish galleon El Buen Consejo, as well as the Stoney Bay Marine Underwater Park. The island is full of artists, there numerous galleries and you can meet many of the artists during your stay.
It is worth visiting some of the smaller islands. Beautiful Sandy Island, is tiny and the perfect place for a romantic swim and sunset cocktail at the beach bar. Uninhabited Scrub Island is sunbathers paradise with calm crystal waters and deserted beach. Prickly Pear Cays a wonderful spot for snorkelling only six miles from Anguilla.
Anguilla has its a selection of luxury resorts as well as a few locally owned villas and guesthouses. There is not much in the way of budget except some self catering properties that are reasonably priced. Dine out in one of Anguilla’s world class gourmet restaurants, before heading out for the evening.
For nightlife look out for Dune Preserve, the bar on beautiful Rendezvous Bay, or the ever popular Johnno’s Anguillan beach bar. If you feel the need for a pint, go to Roy’s Place, Anguilla’s only English pub. Visitors travelling in the summertime can experience Anguilla’s Carnival – Anguilla Summer festival held each year in August.
Nearby St. Maarten is just a 30-minute ferry ride away for more clubs and Casinos, and for the big spenders you can take a small plane to French St. Bart’s for a day of designer shopping and world renown French cuisine.
